Health psychology research examines the influence of learning, memory, perception, cognition, and motivation on health behaviors and the psychological impact of acute and chronic health problems. Dr. Lorenz has experience treating hypertension, fibromyalgia, migraines, chronic pain, chronic and terminal illness, raynauds disease, headaches, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, diabetes, and lupus. She helps children, adolescents, and adults deal with the psychological impact of physical illness. Working collaboratively with the clients, families, and other medical professionals, she provides therapy focused on improving compliance and the acquisition of coping skills. Dr. Lorenz addresses the management of illness across the lifespan for individuals and families.
Amanda R. Lorenz, Ph.D. received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Her graduate research focused on the influence of emotion on a person’s thoughts and behavior. She has extensive training working in hospitals examining the interface between physical and mental health. Dr Lorenz completed her residency at the VAMC-Atlanta and her post-doctoral training at private practices in the Atlanta area before joining Powers Ferry Psychological Associates. Dr. Lorenz sees clients in the Buckhead office. She enjoys working with patients, their families, and physicians collaboratively to enhance the understanding and management of their physical and psychological health.
